GRZEGORZ DROZD

Born in 1970, lives and works in Warsaw. Painter, action and installation artist, photographer. Keen observer of reality which he describes with his own language, constructing uncomfortable and unexpected situations, often without any scenario. He plays with conventions and rituals, drawing art out of conventionality. A manipulator, making a personal declaration that “an artist is a social outlaw and a criminal”. A relational, participation artist, critic of institutions, author of works being vehicles of personal emotions. In 2010, he symbolically “departed” from the Western culture, setting out on a nomadic journey to the far regions of South Asia, searching for “Paradise Lost”. At the moment, he lives and works in Asia and Europe.

In 1992-1995, he studied in the Faculty of Arts, Maria Skłodowska-Curie University, Lublin. In 2007, he graduated from the Faculty of Painting and Faculty of Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He participated in a number of artist-in-residence programmes, among others in Prague and Budapest. He received three scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and has been the co-originator of Change in Traffic Organisation project. He had his individual expositions in the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle and the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko. His projects were presented during numerous collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
