Born in 1953 in Kraków. Bednarski is a sculptor, performer, author of posters, installations and objects. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw ( 1973-1978 ); while still a student he became involved with Jerzy Grotowski’s Wrocław-based Teatr Laboratorium. Since 1986, he lives in Rome, nonetheless he is intensely present also on the Polish art scene.
In early works, he referred to Communist propaganda and the socio-political situation of Poland under martial law. One of his best known works is the sculptural installation Moby Dick, 1987 – a peculiar icon of sculptural art in the last two decades of the 20th century in Poland.
He is the author of the tombstone of Krzysztof Kieślowski, the monument “Incontro con Federico Fellini”, and the monument dedicated to Fryderyk Chopin “La note bleue”. Participant of several hundred collective exhibitions.
