ALEXANDRE PERIGOT / BABEL BARDOTKA

The BABEL BARDOTKA project has been created for the Open City and Lublin. This project focuses on the issue of language, and more specifically written and spoken language. By exposing a set of Polish words, all of foreign origin, the project invites the viewers to explore what their language is built of. We often forget that over 70% of words originate from foreign languages, and the reasons are multiple and affect all areas. On one facade of the building, BABEL BARDOTKA presents a cloud of Polish words of foreign origin: Italian, Spanish, English, French, Turkish, Persian, Serbo-Croatian, Russian, Hebrew, etc. Similarly to the title open city, the project shows that a city such as Lublin is open, dynamic, and it can be found in its past and present.
